A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86cm) in height overall, consisting of a diagram of a scarlet pentagonal fortress with five bastions upon representation of the column of Saint Mark's in Venice with two scrolls, the upper biparted and inscribed "PRIDE CARE" and the lower "READINESS" in maroon.
The location of the unit is represented by the lion of Saint Mark, overlooking Venice, the city that dominates Vicenza and the region. The fortress symbolizes the military mission of the unit, and the indentations of the bastions recall the responsibilities of the unit's specialization. Red, a color of the Italian flag, is a symbol of aid and assistance. Maroon is a color traditionally associated with the United States Medical Corps.
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 102d Medical Detachment on 1 August 1984. It was redesignated for the U.S. Army DENTAC, Vicenza, with symbolism and description revised, on 14 December 1994. It was cancelled effective 30 September 2016, when the unit was discontinued.
